Native Louisvillian Profiled in Documentary Showing Tonight

A documentary premieres in Louisville tonight about an unusual organization that delivers food and medical supplies to people in some of the world’s most dangerous places. WFPL’s Elizabeth Kramer has more.Tonight’s showing of “Beyond the Call” at the Kentucky Center comes after the film’s screening in more than 120 film festivals on five continents. It tells the story of three men who run the humanitarian organization called Knightsbridge International. One of them, Walt Ratterman, was born in Louisville. The film’s director, Adrian Belic, says audiences relate to Ratterman."And as the film progresses, you see Walt going through this huge change of traveling around the world helping people in great need," Belic says. "So, in many ways, Walt gets the most response because Walt represents 99.5 percent of the audience."Belic says people of all backgrounds have told him they can relate to the people in the story."Because the film is a neutral film — it’s just about a few guys trying to do the best they can to make the world a better place — the response has been overwhelming," Belic says. "And depending on who the audience member is and their world view, each person gets something very personal out of it."Belic, who also produced the Oscar-nominated film “Genghis Blues,” will lead a discussion following the film’s screening.
