5.2 Illinois Quake Felt In Louisville

Louisville Metro Government officials say there appears to be no major damage and no injuries from this morning's earthquake that rattled the region.The 5.2 magnitude quake was centered in eastern Illinois.Mayor Jerry Abramson said at a morning press conference that the city's infrastructure, including parking garages and water and sewer lines, were being checked for damage as a precaution.The Kentucky Transporation Cabinet was also inspecting bridges and overpasses.The quake did shake loose dozens of bricks and other masonry from the top of a building on West Kentucky Street.Louisville MetroSafe Director Doug Hamilton says the city's 911 system was bombarded with calls, mostly from people wondering what happened.Louisville Gas and Electric Company spokesman Chip Keeling says the utility has been checking gas lines for leaks but has found no problems.The U.S. Geologic Survey says the quake occurred at 5:36am Eastern Daylight Time.
