A Coming-of-Age Story with Hip Hop Aesthetics: "How We Got On" Playwright Talks About His Work

It's not often that you see a live deejay spinning old-school hip hop hits before the curtain rises on a Humana Festival play at Actors Theatre of Louisville. But in Idris Goodwin’s coming-of-age play “How We Got On,” hip hop’s golden age takes center stage as three emerging rappers find their voices in the Midwestern suburbs. The playwright talks with WFPL's Erin Keane about playwriting, feminism and rap's past, present and future.
