American Red Cross Cuts 28 Louisville Jobs

The American Red Cross is tightening is fiscal belt, and some Louisville-based jobs are being eliminated as a result. The River Valley Blood Services Region has lost 28 highly-specialized positions. The employees’ duties included separating blood into components to be used by hospitals. Spokesperson Loni White says their tasks will be performed elsewhere."In cost-cutting measures, the National Office of the Red Cross has directed the region here in Louisville to direct those responsibilities for component manufacturing to our national testing laboratory in St. Louis, Missouri," says White. It’s estimated the cuts will save the agency about a half-million dollars. White says the changes won’t affect blood services in the region.
