Louisville Metro Police will again collect expired or unused pharmaceuticals during the city's sixth's drug tossthat begins Thursday and continues through Saturday.Mayor's spokesperson Kerri Richardson says the twice-annual dropoffs have been well-received. Last year, officials disposed of nearly 12-hundred pounds of pills and recycled some 400 pounds of pill containers."If you've had an injury or a surgery and you have a few pills left over in the medicine cabinet, those might stay there for months before you think about throwing them away or getting rid of them in some way," Richardson said. "The best thing to do is to take them to an agency like ours that can take care of them and dispose of them properly so that they won't be used improperly or get into the waste stream."Ricardson says other medications such as syrups, drops, ointments or sprays can also be brought to the three drop-off sites, which will be open from 10:00am to 2:00pm each day.
