Archdiocese of Louisville Institutes Wage Freeze

The Catholic Archdiocese of Louisville has instituted a wage freeze for its more than 3,000 employees. Chancellor Brian Reynolds says though officials haven’t started the budget process, it’s a precautionary measure."What’s ultimately behind this is the economy and how difficult it is these days, in times where many people feel a threat to their jobs, have had difficulty with costs, difficulties with borrowing money, and the thought was ‘maybe we can help’," says Reynolds. He says it’s a step toward not having to sharply increase tuition at schools and daycares."We’ve been hearing from our parishioners, our parents who send students to our schools, those who send students to our daycare centers, looking for more assistance, and how can we hold prices, costs that are passed on to them at the lowest possible levels?" says Reynolds.Reynolds says the Archdiocese still might have to resort to tuition hikes, but for now the wage freeze should save about two million dollars. The one-year freeze goes into effect July first.
