By Sheila AshA major barbecue competition is planned for Kentucky Derby Week in Louisville.Run for the Ribs is a national competition that will feature 50 teams, including some of the country’s top pitmasters. It’s sanctioned by theKansas City Barbeque Society, one of the country’s largest organizations for barbeque enthusiasts. Event Organizer Kevin Gros says it will benefit Kentucky Harvest, Blessings in a Backpack and the Wayside Christian Mission."One of the big things with us is we’re taking all the leftover meat that these cooks are preparing and we’re going to donate it right to charity on the spot. So we’re literally going to have tons of meat that are going to go directly to the people who are going to appreciate it most," he said. Gros says the teams will be compete for a $30 thousand dollar prize pool.Run for the Ribs will be May 6th and 7th at Hotel Louisville.
