Berman Says JCPS Off To A Smooth Start

Classes have begun in Jefferson County Public Schools and officials say the semester is off to a smooth start.Aside from a delay in school bus pickups and drop-offs, Superintendent Sheldon Berman says there were no significant problems with the start of classes.Berman says there have been challenges to the new elementary student assignment plan, and many parents are not pleased with where their children have been assigned."For years in our student assignment plan there were parents who didn't get their first choice," he says. "However I think what parents will find is that their second or third choice are equally good and once they meet their teacher once they meet the principal, once they get involved in the school, they're going to find that their child is having a very satisfying experience."Berman says last-minute registrations will lead to adjustments in bus routes and school operations for the next few days.
