Beshear Administration Names New Abandoned Mine Lands Director

Kentucky’s Energy and Environment Cabinet has named a new headof its Division of Abandoned Mine Lands. Robert F. Scott is a civil engineer who spent 26 years working for the division before leaving for the private sector. In his new role, Scott will oversee the remediation of some of the state’s lands that were damaged by mining before 1982, when the federal surface mining laws went into effect. The federal government funds the program, but it’s left up to the state to implement.Scott fills the position left vacant when Steve Hohmann was promoted to commissioner of Natural Resources last month.
