Beshear Introduces Public Safety Program

From Kentucky Public Radio's Tony McVeighGovernor Beshear says Kentuckians will be able to keep better track of crime information, thanks to consolidation of several programs under one umbrella. Beshear is calling the initiative "Public Safety First.""This initiative is one more way for us to make state government responsive to public needs and public concerns," says Beshear. "The public invests two things with state government, it’s money and its trust."The program will expand the crime victims notification program, called VINE; provide an enhanced website for tracking sex offenders; and keep better track of former inmates and those purchasing ingredients for the manufacture of methamphetamine. The half-million dollar cost of the program, to be overseen by the Justice Cabinet, will be absorbed through savings in other areas.
