Despite having no opponent in the upcoming Democratic primary, Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear launched his first commercial in the 2011 gubernatorial campaign that touts his faith, rural upbringing and record. The radio ad began airing Wednesday across rural radio stations and features First Lady Jane Beshear praising her husband for being the son of a preacher and a man with small-town values who has lead the state through tough economic times.Beshear is running unopposed, but the campaign has not said why it decided to launch the ad or how much it cost. Political observers speculate that it is a counter to an early ad by state Senate President David Williams, who is the Republican frontrunner in the upcoming May 17 primary.Williams is running against Jefferson County Clerk Bobbie Holsclaw and Louisville businessman Phil Moffett, who is a Tea Party-backed candidate.Lexington attorney Gatewood Galbraith has filed as an independent.
