Big Brothers Big Sisters Unveils Renovated Facility

The Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Kentuckiana organization is marking the completion of its renovated facility on Gardiner Lane.Executive Director Jeri Swinton says the mentoring program for at-risk youngsters moved into the building four years ago but needed room to grow and embarked on a $2.7 million capital campaign to pay for improvements and initiatives.

Swinton says the group expects to serve about two-thousand young people in the coming year."The real need in this community is closer to ten thousand children who need big brothers and big sisters, and we'll get there. But we need to do it with partnerships with support of people not only volunteering but people contributing," Swinton said. The organization got a $1 million boost from Kosair Charities but still needs to raise about $300,000 to complete the campaign.
