Bill Would Restrict Robocalls

A bill that’s been pre-filed in the Kentucky General Assembly would restrict a common tool used by political campaigns to reach voters. As it reads now, the measure pre-filed by Representative Jimmy Higdon of Lebanon would make automated political telephone calls illegal. Higdon now says he plans to amend it to allow Kentuckians to avoid getting the calls.“New Hampshire has the same bill that I plan on amending this bill to, where they allow people to go to the no-call list and ban political calls that way," he says.Higdon, a Republican, says previous attempts to outlaw the calls have failed to muster enough support for passage. The measure will be considered during the 2009 legislative session that begins next month.
