Blogger Wants to Address Council in Response to Green

Political activist Ed Springston has drafted a letter to the Louisville Metro Council asking for an opportunity to give his view on the ethics cases against embattled Councilwoman Judy Green, D-1, who is facing removal from the council.Last week, Green addressed the council after her impeachment charges were officially read into the record to begin the trial-like proceedings. She defended her actions and maintained she did nothing wrong.“You all in here know Judy Green. You all know me. I’ve not asked you all for anything. Y’all know me," Green said. "Now why would I wait five years to be on the council to become unethical? To become a criminal?"In June, the Metro Ethics Commission ruled unanimously that Green violated the city's code of ethics in her handling of funds for a summer jobs program. Less than a week later, five council members signed a petition to begin the process of removing her from office.Springston filed the second ethics complaint against Green, which alleges misuse of city funds being rerouted through a non-profit group. The ethics commission is expected to make a decision on that case in the coming weeks.Addressed to city lawmakers, Springston's letter asks that he be allowed equal time to formally address the council. He says he believes Green is misleading the public about the ethics hearings and subsequent removal process, and wants equal time to voice his concerns."The evidence is clear and Green is a crook," Springston wrote on his blog. "The transcripts of the case she keeps trying to adhere to prove that beyond a shadow of a doubt."The request was forwarded to the county attorney's office, which will formally respond on council members' behalf before the end of the week.
