Bob Edwards Is Optimistic About The Future of Radio Storytelling

"Being an old fossil, I’m not entirely sure what a podcast is, but I’m going to do them anyway."

And in that self-deferential fashion, public radio legend Bob Edwards explains the next chapter in his career.

Last month, his two regular radio shows — The Bob Edwards Show on SiriusXM and PRI's Bob Edwards Weekend — came to an end. Now, he’s turning to the crowd-funding model to start his next endeavor, which is tantalizingly open-ended.

"We’re going to have conversations and interviews about all manners of things … we might talk a lot about national parks, and that will be fun, skipping around the country."

On a recent visit to his hometown of Louisville, the man who helmed NPR’s Morning Edition from 1979 until 2004 stopped by the WFPL studios to visit with James Bickers. They talked not only about Edwards' own future but the future of journalism and storytelling, too.

Lucky for us, his is an optimistic view.
