Budget Hearings Begin Tuesday

Budget hearings begin tomorrow by the Louisville Metro Council. The Mayor has submitted his 828-million dollar budget, which included a one-point-four percent decrease in revenue and over one-hundred layoffs.Republican Caucus Director Stephen Haag says council members will mostly be scrutinizing the general fund budget, which includes department funding.“The budget dollar is being stretched farther than it ever has been, so council people will be looking for any places where there could be greater efficiencies found as a way of being able to get the projects that the public needs or wants in there," says Haag. The budget hearings will take place on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons for the next three weeks. The public will have two chances to speak about the budget to the Metro Council on June 16th and 17th.The council is scheduled to approve the final budget on June 25th.
