Census Forms Hit Mailboxes Today

by Stephanie CrosbyMailboxes across the country today will be receiving questionnaires from the U.S. Census Bureau. The 2010 Census is underway.Spokesperson J. Clayton Barbour says if people don’t return the forms in the mail, they have to hire workers to collect the information door-to-door.“So it saves the taxpayers money for them to mail the forms back in so we don’t have to hire someone to go out and go to their door," says Barbour. "Roughly, it’s between 80-and-90-million dollars for every one percent of people who send it back in.”Barbour says ten years ago, only 72-percent of the forms were returned. They’re hoping this year to increase that number by ten-to-twelve percent.
