Churchill Downs Incorporated Agrees To Deal With Jockeys' Guild

The Jockeys’ Guild says it has reached a multi-year agreement with Churchill Downs Incorporated to continue annual payments to the guild, but details of the agreement are being kept quiet. The Jockeys’ Guild held a press conference last year requesting CDI continue its $330,000 contributions, which help the guild subsidize health insurance and disability benefits for members.CDI argued it doesn’t employ the jockey’s and therefore shouldn’t have to make payments.Jockeys’ Guild national manager Terry Meyocks said the two sides have been in discussions the past few weeks and have now come to an agreement.“There’s been change over the years with the management and the executives of CDI, which again, it’s a learning curve and also we’ve been out there, more outspoken, basically what we’ve been using the money for," said Meyocks.Neither Meyocks nor CDI officials will say how long the contract is for, or how much money CDI is contributing, but Meyocks did say the agreement is consistent with other tracks.
