City Preparing Harrod's Creek Bridge Contracts

Louisville Metro Government is preparing to send out bid proposals to rebuild and widen the Harrods Creek Bridge. The one-lane span in eastern Jefferson County was closed in November. After legal wrangling over the bridge's historical status, the city ultimately decided to renovate the structure.Mayor's spokesperson Kerri Richardson says the bid packages for the project should be completed and sent to contractors soon."We want to make sure that we take enough time to dot every 'i,' cross every 't' and be careful that when the bids are finalized and the contract goes out that any future legal maneuvers won't damage or impact the impending construction of the new bridge," she says. The project will use 2 million dollars of federal funds and 300 thousand dollars from the city's budget. The conservation group River Fields has filed suit to prevent the bridge from being widened, but Richardson says the project will continue unless an injunction is issued.
