City's Blood Supply Depleted by Ice Storm

Last week’s ice storm left hundreds of thousands of people and businesses without electricity. The resulting closures meant the cancellation of nearly all the Louisville area’s blood drives.American Red Cross spokesperson Loni White says the city’s blood supply is dangerously depleted and has been getting help from surrounding areas that weren’t as seriously affected by the ice storm. She says local blood drives were almost non-existent."It has been in our most modern memory, probably the most disastrous situation for us in regards to the loss of scheduled blood units," says White. They’ve scheduled a special blood drive for this weekend to help make up those needed units of blood. It with be held Saturday at the Crown Plaza Hotel, formerly the Executive West Hotel on Phillips Lane, from 9am to 3pm.
