Clarksville Board To See Colgate Plans

The Clarksville Town Board will get its first look at renovation plans for the old Colgate plant Monday night.A potential buyer is currently inspecting the property for environmental issues.“They are currently in what is called a due diligence period that specifically is allowing them to investigate the plant for possible environmental issues," says Clarksville Redevelopment Director Rick Dickman. "Once that has been completed then they’ll finalize the contract with Colgate and the property will be transferred over to another company.”The plans to be unveiled tonight call for a hotel, condominiums and retail space to be built on the site. Dickman says the plans are vague, and will be revised once the plant has been sold.“We want to hire a world class master planner," he says. "There are only probably 4 or 5 that do this kind of master-planning and development. So we’re going to be going out for proposals sometime at the first of the year.”Dickman estimates the revised plans will cost about $250,000, and renovations may take 10 to 15 years. The plant’s buyer has asked not be identified.
