Coalition Seeking Shoe Donations for Haiti

by Stephanie CrosbyA coalition of Louisville organizations is working to collect donations of old shoes. Organizer James Linton says they’ll take the shoe donations to the less fortunate in Haiti. He says if they raise 10,000 pairs of shoes, a St. Louis man has agreed to give them a half-million dollars to be used toward making more clean water available in the earthquake-ravaged country.Linton says it’s a chance for people to make a difference with no more than a pair of shoes they no longer wear.“With the economy being like it is, a lot of focus is put on our needs," says Linton. "If we could think of somebody else, outside of ourselves for just a moment, it would really be wonderful. And I know a lot of eyes are on the Gulf right now, but we cannot forget about those people in Haiti as well.”The organizations participating in the shoe drive are Linton’s Expression of Your coffee shop, Cable Baptist Church, Service for Peace and EDGE Outreach. They hope to conclude the shoe drive within the next 30 days.
