Comer Promises to Sell Farmer's SUV, Make Other Changes in Agriculture Department

In an interview with CN2 Pure Politics on Wednesday, Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner-elect James Comer pledged to sell an expensive SUV that current Agriculture Commissioner Richie Farmer purchased with taxpayer dollars. The controversies involving Farmer's use of public funds have been heavily scrutinized since the gubernatorial campaign. Questions have been raised about a conference trip to the Virgin Islands, buying a $35,000 Chevy Suburban, two mini fridges and a pair of flat screen televisions. Last month, it was reported Farmer hired his girlfriend, Stephanie L. Sandmann, to the department at a $60,000 annual salary as a non-merit employee.Comer says given her lack of experience he wouldn't have hired Sandmann and likely won't keep her on board, but that she will be given an opportunity to keep the position."I'm not saying anything negative toward Richie Farmer, but I will say the office will be led in a new direction and transparency will be a number one priority," he says.
