None of the challengers were victorious, and six incumbent council members now face contested general elections. One of the most watched council elections will be for the 25th District seat. Incumbent Republican Doug Hawkins handily beat a primary challenger, but will now face Democratic attorney David Yates in November. In the 19th District, where incumbent Hal Heiner gave up the chance for re-election to pursue the mayor's office, Jerry Miller won a three-way primary for the Republican nomination.
