The Louisville Metro Council has formed an ad hoc committee that will hold a hearing next week about this month's flash flood that inundated a large portion of the city's urban core. The meeting will include discussion on what steps should be taken to address personal property loss. One of the hardest hit areas was west Louisville, where many people remain displaced and are struggling to replace their possessions.K.A. Owens of the group Kentucky Alliance says the government should step forward with some help."Our community needs to be made whole, whether the resources come from the city, county, state, federal or combination of all, vulnerable households need to be made whole,"  Owens said at a Friday press conference at the Braden Center. The August 4 storm dumped more than six inches of rain on parts of Louisville, leaving motorists trapped in their vehicles and forcing many people out of their homes.Governor Steve Beshear has asked President Obama for a federal disaster declaration. Those still in need of assistance or want to volunteer to help with the cleanup effort can contact the United Way at 2-1-1.
