Daniels Calls On Public Workers To Give Up Raises

Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels says public employees across the Hoosier State should consider giving up their pay raises next year to ease the burden on local government and school budgets.Daniels has no authority to order salary freezes outside of state government, but says other employees who give up their pay hikes could help their entities save millions of dollars."Real money would be involved in terms of preserving important public services at a time when our cities, towns and schools are in stress. It could make a difference," Daniels said Tuesday.Daniels had already announced that state employees would not get a pay raise next year as step toward eliminating a projected budget shortfall of $763 million this fiscal year.
