The Republican response to President Obama’s State of the Union address next week will be delivered by Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels.

House Speaker John Boehner and Senate Republican Leader announced Daniels’ selection in a statement today, saying he has a solid record of effective governing and fiscal responsibility.

Daniels is in his eighth and final year as Indiana’s governor. He considered getting into the presidential race last year, but decided against a White House run after consulting with his family.

Daniels will speak after the president’s address Tuesday night. Last year’s GOP response was delivered by Congressman Paul Ryan of Wisconsin.
