Daniels: Tolls A Fair Way To Help Finance Bridges

Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels says he supports tolling to help pay for the $4.1 billion Ohio River Bridges Project.Daniels says he believes tolling is preferable to raising the gasoline tax for the plan, which would  build two new Ohio River bridges and re-configure downtown Louisville's Spaghetti Junction. "It's the only way to do it," he said. "My own view is that it's a very fair thing to do. Out of state motorists will pay a very high percentage of the cost this way. I don't think a users fee basically is unfair in any way."Daniels made his remarks following an address to a business group in Jeffersonville Wednesday morning. He also told reporters that he has no plans to run for president in 2012, pointing to the fact that he has not raised any money and has no plans to visit any key election states such as New Hampshire and Iowa.
