According to a statement from the company, Roth was returning this weekend from a business trip in Des Moines and from visiting his family. He was found in his car, which had run off the road. The cause of death has not been determined, the company said.

He was 56.

Roth was hired by Kentucky Opera in 2006. He previously worked for Fort Worth Opera as director of finance and had been a freelance opera director for various companies, including Minnesota Opera and Opera Theatre of St. Louis.
