Derby Museum Closed Through 2009

The Kentucky Derby Museum won’t be open for the rest of this year. Officials say it’s taking longer than expected to recover from the August fourth flash flood.Spokesperson Wendy Treinen says nearly 2,500 items in the collections were damaged in the flood, and every exhibit at the museum was damaged in some way.“It’s hard to say what we’re going to look like when we re-open at this point," says Treinen. "We don’t know if some of the exhibits will remain the same or if we’ll have new exhibits to share, so we’re still in the middle of that process.”Treinen says insurance adjusters have estimated damages to the museum of around four-million dollars.
