Design Plans Unveiled For Section Of "The Fork"

The non-profit group 21st Century Parks, which is creating The Fork, a four-thousand acre public park system along the Floyd's Fork watershed in eastern and southeastern Louisville, has unveiled design plans for a large section of the project. The so-called North Park includes 1,400 acres along Floyd's Fork Creek beginning near Shelbyville Road and extending south. The group's president and CEO, Dan Jones, says the North Park will be highlighted by a 30-acre Egg Lawn, easily visible from Interstate 64."Surrounding the great lawn is a walking path, similar to what you would find at Seneca Park, a park drive, and then off to the side is a whole series of recreational features," Jones said. The plans also call for a nature perserve, interpretive center and a lodge.Jones says ground will be broken on the North Park next year. The North Park project will take several years to complete, but a children's play area should be in place by next fall. His group has raised nearly $90 million for the entire Floyd's Fork park system.A rendering of the completed North Park  and aerial photo of the site in its current state are below.
