Despite Closures, Large Pool Turnout Expected

Louisville’s public swimming pools will open this weekend. Officials don't expect last year's closure of five outdoor pools to put a damper on the season.Last year, after the pools closed due to budget cuts, Metro Parks offered a shuttle from closed pools to open ones. It was eventually cancelled due to lack of participation, but parks spokesperson Jason Cissell says that doesn't mean people weren't traveling to the open pools."We know that people were finding the pools and we were excited to see those numbers going up," he says. "In fact, we served almost the same number last year with the 4 outdoor pools that we served the year before with 9. We served 88% of the audience we'd served the year before."Due to the extended school year, pools will open this weekend, then close Tuesday. They'll open next weekend and close on the following Monday, then open for the summer on June 5th.
