Trailing by more than 30-points in the polls, Republican gubernatorial candidate and Jefferson County Clerk Bobbie Holsclaw says she is still a contender despite meager campaign contributions.On Tuesday, Holsclaw's campaign reported she raised only $22,774 in the first quarter of the three-way GOP primary contest against state Senate President David Williams and Louisville businessman Phil Moffett.From the Herald-Leader:Williams is expected to report more than $1 million in contributions and Moffett less than $100,000 in documents that are due by Wednesday evening.
Holsclaw said Tuesday that she will have enough money to get her message out to the public, despite being outgunned by her opponents.
"I have been the under dog before and I've done it before," Holsclaw said, referring to her first run for Jefferson County Clerk in 1998 against a well-known Democratic opponent.
Over the course of the campaign, Moffett has also faced financial woes and is also down by more than 30 points in the polls, but his estimated $100,000 still quadruples Holsclaw. It was expected by GOP insiders that Holsclaw would perform better financially given her stature in GOP politics in Jefferson County.
