'Doing Our Part, From the Heart' Resumes

A Louisville Metro councilwoman is again collecting toiletries and non-perishable snacks for soldiers serving overseas.Councilwoman Madonna Flood started the annual campaign in 2006, while her son was serving in Iraq. He had asked his family to send things like deodorant, eye wash and shaving kits for his fellow soldiers.Flood says they started collecting items for care packages soon after that, and last year sent about 350 packages.“Some of those boxes actually went to chaplains who opened up free stores for those soldiers who need specific items of personal hygiene or a snack when they go out on patrol," says Flood. She is collecting donated items at the Okolona Fire Station, and taking monetary donations at any Republic Bank branch. Donations made to the account “Doing Our Part From the Heart” will be used to buy postage for the packages.
