Donation Means Free Pool Admission For Children

A Louisville businessman's donation will allow children to use the city's four outdoor public swimming pools at no cost for most of the summer.Gus Goldsmith delivered a check for more than $12,000 to officials during a ceremony at the Algonquin Park pool in west Louisville."I grew up in the west end, at 18th and Broadway. We had a little family business there, and we saw all the hardships of the west end and anytime that I get a chance I like to give back to the community," Goldsmith said. The donation means chidren ages 17 and under won't have to pay the usual $1.50 admission charge at the Algonquin Park, Fairdale, Norton and Sun Valley Park pools from July 4 through August 9.Five other city pools did not re-open this year because of budget cuts or maintenance costs.Gus Goldsmith is the owner of Action Loan Company of Louisville.
