Downard Authors KACo, KLC Funding Resolution

Following revelations of inappropriate spending by executives in the Kentucky League of Cities and the Kentucky Association of Counties, Louisville Metro Councilman Kelly Downard is questioning the city's membership in the organizations.Downard says both organizations provide helpful services for the city, but he will introduce a resolution in Thursday's council meeting that would allow the council to consider suspending payments to KLC and KACo until a state auditor's investigation of the spending is complete.Downard says there are too many unanswered questions for the city to continue paying dues to the organizations."The purpose of the resolution is more, 'Let's get this out in the open, let's talk about it.' There may be a lot of cities out there wondering 'Whoa, wonder what we should do? Hey, let's call Louisville,'" he says. The resolution will likely be sent to the Government Accountability and Oversight Committee and will be discussed in two weeks. The head of KACo has stepped down and the head of the KLC will step down on January 1st.
