Education Leaders Get Ideas from Dropout Solution Summit

Louisville education and civic leaders are trying to better understand why students are dropping out of high school. They attended a summit today to tackle the problem and devise a solution for Jefferson County.JCPS Superintendent Sheldon Berman says many of the ideas stemmed from one theme."One of the major concerns around dropouts is the sense of connection students feel with their school, their sense of the relationships they have with adults and peers in the school," says Berman, "and to an extent, some of the recommendations focused on that."Berman says his staff is currently compiling recommendations from the summit. They’ll meet with the mayor’s office in the coming weeks to firm up a plan to put into action throughout the school district.
