Eight Belles Ceremony Set For Sunday

A public ceremony in remembrance of Kentucky Derby filly Eight Belles will be held Sunday at the Derby Museum.Eight Belles had to be euthanized when she broke down after finishing second in this year's Derby.Museum spokesperson Wendy Treinen says Eight Belles is not the first thoroughbred to be interred at the site."We have four Derby winners here on the property. We have Carry Back, Sunny's Halo, Broker's Tip and Swaps. They were Derby winners that were interred on the property some time ago," she said.Sunday's ceremony begins at 2pm in a garden outside the museum.A private burial for Eight Belles was held last month at the site.

Rick Howlett was midday host and the host of LPM's weekly talk show, "In Conversation." He was with LPM from 2001-2023 and held many different titles, including Morning Edition host, Assignment Editor and Interim News Director. He died in August 2023. Read a remembrance of Rick here.
