Eli Lilly CEO Says Gender Gap in Science Shrinking

The CEO of the Eli Lilly pharmaceutical company says the gender gap in science jobs is closing in many industries.John Lechleiter says the shift is due in part to the delay in changes in education. It takes years to obtain the proper degree, and so the women seeking jobs now were part of a surge in female science students.Lechleiter says Eli Lilly's workforce is balanced in most areas."I think there's probably, if you look at our senior scientists PhD and physician ranks, we may be, still, proportionally a little more men than women, but I think that differential is closing," he says.Eli Lilly was recognized this year by the National Organization for Female Executives. Lechleiter spoke Friday at Presentation Academy in Louisville.
