Energy Cabinet Accepting Smart Grid Proposals

The Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet is now taking proposals for new so-called smart grid energy distribution projects in the state. The Cabinet has $2.65-million in stimulus funds to distribute for smart grid proposals. Project director Bob Amato says they’re hoping to fund five or six demonstration projects.“Things like in-home displays that will give consumers more power, more control over their own consumption and possibly the ability to reduce their consumption and their costs," he says.Amato says the funds are only enough for small projects that will only affect a small number of electric customers – but they’re hoping the projects will expand the distributors’ understanding and capability in the smart grid field. They’ll take proposals through February 22.
