Erik Reece on Creative Nonfiction and Storytelling

The University of Louisville’s announcement that author Greg Mortenson would receive the Grawemeyer Award for education came only days  before 60 Minutes aired a story questioning some of the accounts Mortenson made in his book Three Cups of Tea about his experiences exploring and building schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan. It’s the latest controversy surrounding claims made in a book from the genre known as creative nonfiction.  Erik Reece is the author of the creative nonfiction books Lost Mountain and An American Gospel. He grew up in Louisville and now teaches writing at the University of Kentucky.  Erik Reece spoke with WFPL’s Graham Shelby.
