Ethics Workgroup Continues Fine-Tuning

The Louisville Metro Council’s workgroup that was formed to combine two proposals to update the city’s ethics ordinance met this afternoon. The four-person panel heard again from Metro Ethics Commissioner Larry Grant, a member of the group that will enforce the ordinance.Grant presented several changes to the language of the proposals, and encouraged council members to take the final product seriously.“I know that you want it right and correct, and I want it right and correct," said Grant,"and whatever assistance I can give, along those lines, in representing the Ethics Commission, which I was asked to do, so please do not take anything I say in a negative manner if I point certain things out.”Two separate proposals have been introduced by Republican Councilman Ken Fleming and Democratic Councilwoman Marianne Butler.Today, the workgroup adopted 13 parameters of the ordinances that had identical language, and will move forward to more controversial elements next Monday.
