Exhibit in Louisville Today Details Eugenics

A traveling exhibit from the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum opens at the University of Louisville today. The exhibit is called “Deadly Medicine: Creating the Master Race”, and details the lead-up to the practice of eugenics.Dr. Rob Steiner with the U-of-L School of Public Health and Information Sciences says it’s important for tomorrow’s doctors to think about medical history.“How we practice medicine and the outcomes of medicine is determined largely by our motivations and ethics of practice," says Steiner. In the lead-up to World War II, German physicians and public health officials supported and implemented the Nazi racial eugenics policy that lead to the sterilization of the mentally ill, homosexuals, gypsies, Jews and others. The exhibit runs through the end of January at the Health Sciences Library.
