Fall Meet Features On-The-Job Announcer Auditions

Churchill Downs is looking for a new track announcer – and the finalists for the job will get a chance to audition for the public during the fall meet. Churchill’s previous announcer, Luke Kruytbosch, died of an apparent heart attack earlier this year.Track spokesperson Darren Rogers says they received about two dozens applications for the position from all over the world."We’re looking long and hard at who that next voice of the Kentucky Derby and Churchill Downs will be," says Rogers. "There’s only been five track announcers in Churchill Downs’ 134 year history, it’s an amazing short list of people."Rogers says they’ve selected five finalists for the position, and those five will each announce for one week during the all meet. Among those five are a 24-year-old as well as an Australian, and one of the best known track announcers in Europe. Rogers says they look forward to feedback from racing fans, and expect to make a decision sometime in December. The fall meet begins Sunday.
