Felner Sentenced To More Than Five Years In Prison

By Rick HowlettFormer University of Louisville College of Education Dean Robert Felner has been sentenced to 63 months in prison for embezzling federal grant funds.U.S. District Judge Charles Simpson also ordered Felner (in photo, at far right)  to pay restitution totaling some $2.3 million to U of L, the University of Rhode Island and an addiction center in Illinois. Felner and an associate, Thomas Schroeder, were indicted on numerous federal charges in 2008. Felner entered into a plea agreement in January of this year; Shroeder is scheduled to stand trial in August.

Rick Howlett was midday host and the host of LPM's weekly talk show, "In Conversation." He was with LPM from 2001-2023 and held many different titles, including Morning Edition host, Assignment Editor and Interim News Director. He died in August 2023. Read a remembrance of Rick here.
