Filing Deadline Passes

From Kentucky Public Radio’s Tony McVeighThe filing deadline to run for elected office in Kentucky this year has passed.  Kentucky Public Radio’s Tony McVeigh was there when Secretary of State Trey Grayson shut the door. There were no last minute filers, but Sen. Jimmy Higdon of Lebanon, who was elected last month to fill an un-expired term, was waiting around to see if he would have any opposition for a full term.  He doesn't.“So, now I can spend my time doing my job instead of running a campaign," he says. "And it’s pretty awesome!” Seventeen seats in the Senate, and 60 in the House, are being contested.  Six Republicans and five Democrats are running for the seat now held by U-S Sen. Jim Bunning, who’s not seeking re-election.  All six Kentucky congressmen will have general election battles this fall, but three won’t know their opponents until after the May 18th primary.  Supreme Court Justice Daniel Venters drew no opposition.
