Fischer Celebrates Indiana Jobs

Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer was in Jeffersonville, Indiana today to celebrate the creation of new jobs. The Connextions company, which provides call center support for healthcare companies including Humana, is adding 750 jobs to its Jeffersonville operations."Obviously we always want jobs physically in the city of Louisville because it creates occupational taxes. But we'd rather have jobs go across the river than go to Oklahoma City or Cincinnati, Ohio," says Fischer's spokesman Chris Poynter.  "The company is going to need to hire people from this side of the river; from the Louisville side of the river in addition to the Jeffersonville side of the river."During his campaign, Fischer often spoke of the need for a strong regional economy that includes southern Indiana, Elizabethtown, Fort Knox and Lexington.According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the unemployment rate in and around Louisville is 9.5 percent. The national rate is 9.2 percent.
