Fischer Discusses Inauguration, Administration Plans

In less than one month, Louisville Mayor-elect Greg Fischer will take the oath of office. Fischer discussed his plans for the inauguration and subsequent term with the media Tuesday. One of the most persistent questions Fischer has been asked since the election is how he will structure his administration. He has been talking with the more than 100 high-level employees he could directly replace upon taking office, and he says there will be some openings and replacements announced soon."There'll be enough folks that you'll be able to see a nucleus of folks coming in that represents the Fischer administration, but in terms of an exact number right now, that's a little premature on that," he says.A handful of those employees are not seeking to retain their jobs under the new administration.Inauguration day is January 3rd. There will be various events held throughout the day, and Fischer is hoping to finance them all with 150 thousand dollars in private donations. He is further asking residents to volunteer for a day of service on the Saturday after the inauguration.Fischer will be sworn in at Metro Hall at 11 am on January 3rd. The ceremony will be preceded by a free public breakfast and interfaith celebration. It will be followed by a parade and a $100-per ticket gala at the Convention Center.Fischer has declared the Saturday after inauguration a public day of service, and is asking Louisvillians to donate their time to help the community."Our goal for the day is to engage at least 300 volunteers in 30 projects or more," says Kelly Garvey with the United Way.Volunteers can sign up for projects with the United Way.Fischer's 122-member inauguration planning committee is led by Christy Brown and Old National Bank Vice President Tommy Elliot. Former Congressman Ron Mazzoli, former mayor Dave Armstrong and former state senator Georgia Powers are the honorary chairs of the inauguration. Fischer's team is seeking to raise 150 thousand dollars from individual donors to finance inauguration festivities so no city dollars will be used. For more information on the inauguration and the planning committee, visit The Edit.
