Fischer To Address Council Thursday

The Louisville Metro Council's first meeting of the year is this Thursday. The agenda includes some routine business and one unusual address. As it typically does in January, the council will first elect a new president. Majority caucus spokesperson Tony Hyatt says Councilman Jim King will likely win the election with support from the Democratic majority."A straw vote was taken, a show of hands, for support for Councilman King and it was unanimous. So he has a total of 17 votes, which can assure him that he will be elected the President of the Metro Council for the year 2011," he says. The council will also hear from Mayor Greg Fischer."Usually the only time you would see the mayor and the Metro Council in the same room is when the mayor comes over and presents the budget for the coming year, and that's usually done in the very end of May," says Hyatt. "I think what you're looking at is, at least the council has gotten some pretty good indications that this mayor wants to have a much closer working relationship than the previous administration."
