Flooding to Temporarily Close Two Post Offices

Rising flood waters are hampering mail delivery in parts of Louisville and will close a pair of U.S. Post Offices along the Ohio River.Located on River Road, the Glenview and Harrods Creek stations are set to be closed temporarily as a precaution to the rising waters, which are expected to crest at 33 feet by Thursday. In the past, flooding has made those offices inoperable and post office officials say they aren't going to wait."No water hasn't actually reached those post offices yet, but we're unable to get there to deliver mail for those P.O. Box customers so we're not taking any chances," says David Walton, a post office spokesman.About 300 deliveries were missed Monday in the Prospect area due to impassible streets or because roads and mailboxes were washed out. Walton is asking for customers’ patience as they reroute deliveries, but warned other stations could close depending on how high the water gets.Customers whose mail delivery has been affected by flooding can pick up their mail, with proper identification, at the Prospect Post Office located at 9523 U.S. Highway 42. Retail services and post office box customers may also pick up their mail at that station beginning Tuesday. The office is open 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.'
